Day 44 Wiggins to Pascagoula, MS
What a glorious ride today from Wiggins - beautiful MS backroads, tall pines of every description, pretty fields of goats, sheep, horses and cattle and some beautiful homes. Also, a fair number of trailer homes. It rained hard last night but today has been crystal clear. . .After leaving Wiggins on Hwy 49, we turned off onto Sunflower Rd., followed by Bethel Rd., SR 15, Bridge Creek Rd., Old Biloxi Rd., Joe Batt Rd - on and on until we turned south on SR 57 in VanCleave. From there we went thru Gautier, then over two bridges to Pascagoula. The 2nd bridge was long and high but not scary. I even stopped at the top and took pictures w/Jan and Arda. Candice just walked by and said that she crossed the bridge and her friend Dawn snapped her picture to prove she rode over. She has a real fear of bridges but has crossed a lot of them on this trip. . .We pulled into the La Font Inn just behind Kathy B. and Kathy arrived just after her sister Belinda w/her two young boys. They brought two huge coolers of crayfish, shrimp and boiled potatoes. These crayfish were perfectly seasoned and were such a treat for lunch. Belinda even brought frozen strawberry daiquiris! Wow! The early birds really chowed down because we hadn't had lunch. I've been by the pool today, too, with a new book. Finally finished SATURDAY by Ian McEvan. Bought a used copy of TRAVELS WITH CHARLIE in St. F and started that today at the pool. It's amazing but I've been 2447 miles so far on my journey across America!!! What a phenomenal trip. . . We found out tonight that yesterday's dogs have had recent rabies shots. All three of the ladies who were injured rode today and said that they felt just fine. . . . Linda had a wonderful dinner tonight as requested by yesterday's BD girl: lasagna, homemade ww bread, salad, and chocolate cake. Boy, was it good! . . . It was good to have a visit late this afternoon from Peggy Baugh, originally from Columbus but now from Gautier. I think her sister, Margie D., told her about my journey and since she lives so close, she called the other day to say that she wanted to stop by. I really appreciated that she came.
