For the first time I can't begin by saying this was another clear, sunny day. It was cool and overcast but we were all so grateful that it wasn't raining as had been predicted. After all the warnings about weather for today, I think we all slept remarkably well. My roomie and I could hardly visit last night because we spent our time muttering to ourselves over just what to wear today in the way of warm clothes and raingear. I seemed perfectly outfitted for the temp this morning and was prepared for possibility of rain. Mary and I were the 1st to leave and that was about 7:30. We had all our flashers on including the one on top of my helmet. The first 18+ miles were an easy warmup for the climb that began just as the divided highway turned to 2 lanes. The climb into Superior was about 10 miles with a 1.5 mile descent. Unfortunately the mountains were so shrouded in fog that there were no photo opportunities. We arranged last night that everyone stop at the Buckboard restautant in order to reassess the weather conditions. Since we still had no precipitation, Mary and I proceeded on but about 10 minutes apart. It really seemed as though we could complete the ride on to Globe. After climbing very slowly for 3 miles out of Superior and reaching the infamous tunnel and having gone over an awesome bridge, the Sag driver for the day came by on the other side of the highway. She had gone ahead and discovered snow and very poor visibility. The local police had been following us up the mountain. He called over to us and told us we were crazy to proceed. So on that note the decision was made that all should be sagged to Globe. It was disappointing for most of us, but it's best to safe. . . I did take a few photos from the tunnel looking back at the road thru the mountains and at the bridge I mentioned. I'll post them tonight or later. I should have gotten a pic of all the bikes on top of the trailer. I think it hold 14. Obviously we were shuttled in two groups. The temperature here is a chilly 40 degrees which means tomorrow's start will be cold. I'm planning to add my Goretex jacket to the mix of clothes. Still having fun but for some reason I'm a little tired tonight. Could it be climbing at 6.5 mph - slogging along up and up? I'm enjoying each day's challenge .
